Rather than finishing an already matured whisky, Kilchoman filled its spirit directly into the fortified wine casks. Maury is a rich, sweet fortified wine from the Roussillon region in southern France, typically made from Grenache Noir grapes, and the casks bring a deep vein of dark fruit and honeyed sweetness to Kilchomans characteristically bright, peaty spirit. Bottled at 50% ABV, this release offers an unusual cask influence rarely seen in Scotch whisky, particularly in full-term maturation rather than finishing.
