The Isle of Raasay Gin 70cl
Nestled off the coast of Skye, the Isle of Raasay Distillery has quickly made its mark on the whisky world, but its handcrafted Scottish island gin is every bit as impressive. The striking bottle design is moulded with impressions of juniper, rocks and fossils found on Raasay, reflecting the island’s unique geology. Inside, the recipe combines ten carefully selected botanicals including Raasay juniper, sweet orange peel, lemon peel and rhubarb with the distillery’s double distilled spirit and pure water drawn from its 60 metre well. This is the first legal spirit produced on Raasay, an island with centuries of illicit distilling heritage. Every drop is lovingly distilled and bottled on the island. The result is a dry, zesty and refreshing gin with remarkable smoothness. Local botanist Dr Stephen Bungard helped source the finest Raasay juniper for the inaugural production. To achieve perfect balance, juniper and a handful of botanicals are distilled in copper malt spirit stills, while the rest are vapour infused in a copper gin basket to retain their bright, fresh character. Fresh and aromatic on the nose, it opens with juniper, sweet orange, candied lemon and a touch of rhubarb. The palate is dry, with bursts of juniper, richer rhubarb and citrus, before all the flavours harmonise into a refreshing whole. The finish is crisp and zesty, leaving a lasting aftertaste that captures the essence of Raasay.
