Deakin Estate ‘Vine Series’ Shiraz Viognier 2025, Australia

Deakin Estate ‘Vine Series’ Shiraz Viognier 2025, Australia

Established over 80 years ago, Deakin Estate began life as a grape grower, though its ambitions were always lofty. This is fitting for a brand named after Alfred Deakin, Australia’s second prime minister. Since opening its own winery in 1980, the estate has drawn on a valuable stock of old vines to craft wines of real character, including this one. The fruit is sourced from the Riverina region, often referred to as New South Wales’ food bowl. Here, drip-irrigated vineyards with healthy canopies protect the vines from the sun, ensuring optimal fruit quality. In the winery, the grapes are guided by head winemaker Emma Norbiato, who has been with Deakin Estate for 14 years and champions a philosophy of producing delicious wines with true varietal integrity. To preserve bright fruit flavours, the wine is primarily aged in stainless steel, with a subtle touch of oak introduced through stave infusion. The result is an inviting wine, offering aromas of mulberry and blueberry on the nose, followed by a complex, gently spicy palate and a long, lingering finish.
