Thelema 'The Mint' Cabernet Sauvignon 2022, Stellenbosch, South Africa
Named ‘The Mint’ for its distinctive minty, eucalyptus notes, this wonderfully fresh Cabernet Sauvignon is a true South African gem. Thelema was founded in 1983 in Stellenbosch by Gyles Webb, who armed with a winemaking degree and influenced by travels in Tuscany, Bordeaux, and California, set about planting vines on an old fruit farm high on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain with his wife, Barbera. This is area is described as the "wilder side" of Stellenbosch, where spotted leopards roam the vines and a combination of elevation and eucalyptus trees creates a much-prized style of Cabernet with a distinctively minty freshness. It's aged for 18 months in barrel, 40% of which are made from new French oak to impart a gentle spice character. The 2022 vintage was awarded 95 points by Tim Atkin MW in his South Africa Special Report 2025 and 5 stars in the Platter's Wine Guide 2025. This wine is bursting with ripe red berry and cassis flavours, layered with dark chocolate, mocha, and of course a slight 'minty' character. A perfect match with lamb.
