Suntory 'The Hakushu' Distiller's Reserve Single Malt Whisky 70cl
From Suntory’s second distillery deep in the forests around Mt Kaikomagatake, this Japanese single malt is made with pure alpine spring water. Built by Suntory in 1973, the Hakushu Distillery is one of the highest whisky distilleries in the Japanese Southern Alps, surrounded by pine and oak forests and nourished by water filtered through thousand-year-old granite rock. The soft, mineral-rich spring water here gives the spirit a bright, crisp baseline, quite distinct from richer lowland malts. The whisky is distilled in traditional pot stills with a blend of lightly peated and non-peated malts, and is matured in a selection of American oak, Sherry casks, and Japanese oak casks. Expect notes of mint, yuzu, and grapefruit with a gentle smoky character. A fresh, elegant Japanese whisky.
