Ken Forrester 'The FMC' Chenin Blanc 2024/25, Western Cape

Ken Forrester 'The FMC' Chenin Blanc 2024/25, Western Cape

Ken Forrester is a big name in South Africa. He’s known as 'Mr Chenin' thanks to his role in reviving the grape and continues to bring unique character to every wine he makes. Forrester's vineyards are located on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, in the Western Cape. While the land has been tended to since 1694, Ken and his family didn’t take residence there until 1993. FMC officially stands for 'Forrester Meinert Chenin', recognising the collaboration between Ken Forrester and winemaker Martin Meinert, though it is often colloquially referred to as "F*cking Marvellous Chenin". Sourced from low-yielding, old bush vines planted in 1974, this Chenin is fermented in new French oak 400 litre barrels imparting well-integrated honeyed spice. A portion of botrytis is always present in the blend, giving notes of marmalade and saffron. Following fermentation, the wine is matured in barrel on its lees for 12 months to round out its texture. Expect complex notes of pineapple, lemon, apricot, and vanilla. Great with richer seafood dishes or curries.
